I travelled up to City Hall recently to meet with Neil Garratt, London Assembly Member for Croydon & Sutton, and Nick Rogers, London Assembly Member for Hounslow, Richmond & Kingston, to talk about the expansion of ULEZ and what we can do in the Home Counties to convey to the London Assembly that we are overwhelmingly opposed to the Mayor's highway robbery.
Whether you are travelling to Coulsdon, Sutton, Bromley or anywhere else in Outer London, you'll have to pay £12.50 to drive into Greater London if your car is not ULEZ compliant. But the Mayor of London isn't stopping his highway robbery with ULEZ expansion.
He's now proposing a road pricing scheme for anyone driving into London, where any driver will pay per mile to drive into London based on journey and emissions.
This will put further financial strain on Outer Londoners and impact local businesses in our communities. A consultation on this is open until Friday 10 March and if you are opposed to the plan, you should make your feelings known here.
Despite what they've been saying locally, the Liberal Democrats have actively supported ULEZ expansion with their 2012 Mayoral candidate standing on a manifesto to introduce a £10 boundary charge. More recently, their Leader in the London Assembly called out the Mayor for not being "bold" in expanding ULEZ sooner. The Green Party's Assembly Members have also voted for ULEZ expansion. Only the Conservative Party have opposed ULEZ expansion and acted in the interests of residents in Outer London and the Home Counties.
