I've been talking to local people across Horley East and a lot of people are worried about getting around Horley safely, looking after our local area, and having a say in the decisions affecting their lives.
I'm pleased to have signed the Our Future Surrey Pledge which is a cross party initiative which will make sure that the new East Surrey Council makes decisions that benefit people and not playing partisan politics. And focuses on making our area a much better and more affordable place to live.
Here are the five priorities that the Our Future Surrey Pledge focuses on:
Building healthy and sustainable communities - in Horley, this means tackling flooding, strengthening the community spirit we have in our town, and supporting local projects that reduce waste.
Protecting and enhancing nature for everyone - by campaigning for improved water quality to protect health and wellbeing, and protecting and looking after our open spaces.
Cutting energy bills and creating green jobs - through making East Surrey Council purse policies to increase the number of jobs in East Surrey (including in sustainable industries) and lobbying the national government to take steps to reduce energy bills.
Making transport affordable, accessible and healthy - in Horley, this means pushing the new East Surrey Council to introduce safer walking routes in our town, tackling speeding on Smallfield Road, Balcombe Road, Massetts Road and Russells Crescent, and lobbying Metrobus and the new East Surrey Council to introduce more bus services.
Empowering communities - just because the new East Surrey Council is covering a much larger area shouldn't mean local people can't have a voice. If I'm elected as one of your East Surrey Councillors and a decision on Horley's future needs to made, you will hear about it, you will know about it and you will have a say. And I will make sure that those in charge of the new council hear Horley East's voice. I will not be a councillor who goes into hibernation.
More and more local people are trusting me to address their concerns and by signing the pledge, I am showing that I will take tangible action to make our town, and East Surrey more widely, a better place to live.
I look forward to working with you to make Horley East better.
