I welcome the news that £1.8million in funding from Department for Transport has been awarded to Surrey County Council to fund safety improvements from the Cockerel Roundabout in Dorking to the High Street in Reigate.
This route has been identified as being among the worst A-road routes in England for the number of fatal and serious injuries per kilometre travelled, with 70 collisions causing injury from 2017 to November 2022, including one fatality.
Given this is a major route that is popular with cyclists and motorcyclists, the improvements proposed are welcome. These include central white line hatching to separate the opposing traffic flows, raised carriageway line markings, improvements at the Brockham Lane junction and cycle tracks segregating cyclists from traffic.
As a regular user of the A25, I know too well how dangerous for cyclists and motorbikes this stretch is, so this funding is welcome news!
