Last night, Reigate & Banstead Borough Councillors agreed to fund the reopening in the Harlequin, Redhill.
I think this is delightful news because many people from Horley visit the Harlequin, including to see the annual panto, concerts and other plays.
A £4.5million funding package was agreed by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council at their meeting of the Full Council, which will go towards removing the RAAC from the roof, which has been keeping the Harlequin closed for some time.
I'd like to thank Cllr Shelly Newton, Executive Member for Leisure and Culture, for her work in presenting the funding plan and getting the councillors to agree to the plan. I also want to pay tribute to the Harlequin Support Group for their dogged campaigning to get Reigate & Banstead Borough Council to reopen the Harlequin. Without their determination and Cllr Newton's work, I don't think we'd be seeing the Harlequin reopen.
It's great that the theatre is reopening and I look forward to visiting again when it reopens!
