I know there are concerns about the waiting list for social housing in Tandridge.
I raised the following question at the last meeting of Tandridge Council's Housing Committee on 17 November about what the Council can do to reduce the waiting time.
"Vulnerable residents requiring new homes in Tandridge are facing lengthy waits in accommodation that is simply not fit for purpose. I've been contacted by younger families rehoused away from their support networks who are feeling trapped and isolated, and also by families with several autistic children who are living in one-bedroom flats in Whyteleafe and Caterham. Residents in both of these situations feel like hope is being sucked away from them as a result of there simply not being enough homes to suit their needs.
While I appreciate the positive steps being taken by this Council to reduce the waiting time for a new home, can this Council take further steps to reduce the waiting time for residents?"
The Head of Housing has explained that while Tandridge have an ambitious building programme to supply family homes, they will also be buying family homes on the open market to provide accommodation for families which will probably be in the North of Tandridge. The Council are also incentivising residents to downsize and move from family homes where they're no longer required to free up houses in high demand.
I will continue to work with officers to ensure that there is appropriate social housing in Tandridge and it is in an acceptable condition.
