Get Ockley a better bus service!

Writer: Taylor O'DriscollTaylor O'Driscoll

Ockley residents have raised concerns with me about the bus service in the village. With the number of housing units in the area being increased by Liberal Democrat-run Mole Valley District Council, and the number of parking spaces being reduced, it isn't viable to get to Dorking or Horsham without a car.

If residents want to travel to work, school or access essential services such as medical appointments, the car is often the only option. With the station being two miles away from the village, I think something needs to be done about the bus service.

So I've launched a petition to call on Surrey County Council to make the bus service from Ockley significantly more reliable. If you'd like to sign it, please visit here.

Below is the wording of the petition:

We the undersigned petition Surrey County Council to put steps into place to ensure that Ockley and surrounding villages has a more reliable bus service. This is so residents can get to school, shopping and work without the need of taking a car.
Mole Valley District Council has an intention to impose additional housing units in the village without the adequate parking in place. While we have concerns about the additional housing units, which we are representing outside the scope of this petition, there are other issues which a bus service can also address.
Ockley's school has now closed down, and the village is two miles away from the railway station. Currently, Ockley has a patchy bus service which only runs a couple of times a day. And this service is not useful for commuters to school or work.
It is essential that this council puts measures in place to improve the bus service in Ockley by adding it to the main bus network in Mole Valley, with services to Dorking, Horsham and either Ockley or Holmwood Railway Station. We the undersigned want a better and more reliable bus service in Ockley and demand that Surrey County Council starts to take action to deliver this.
